Looks like it isn’t ending after all: The Summer I Turned Pretty movie is on the way.

During the series finale red carpet celebration in Paris on Wednesday, Jenny Han, the show’s creator, announced that a feature-length film is in the works.

“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

Prime Video, the distributor of the hit coming-of-age series, which premiered in 2022, approved the movie installation to conclude the show’s three-season run. Han, who also penned the trilogy of books on which the show is based, is set to write and direct the upcoming film.

The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, global head of television at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said in a joint statement. “We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”

The Season 3 finale, which was presumed to be the final episode and installment of the series, was released on Prime Video at midnight on Wednesday. While fans were satisfied with the outcome between Belly (Lola Tung) and Conrad (Chris Briney), many who have read the books felt that some of the major plot points were overlooked.

While Han hasn’t confirmed outright, it’s likely that the film will focus on Belly and Conrad’s wedding, which happens at the end of the final book, We’ll Always Have Summer.
