October is here, the 2025 MLB playoffs are underway, and the 12-team postseason bracket has been trimmed down to eight teams. The New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers all advanced to the League Division Series on Thursday, winning decisive Wild Card Series Game 3s to move on. The Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres and Cleveland Guardians were all sent packing on Thursday. The Cincinnati Reds were the first team knocked out of the playoffs, as the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off a two-game sweep in the best-of-three wild card round.
The Dodgers are facing the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS in a battle of the two heaviest World Series favorites. There are two division rivalries being renewed as well as the Yankees face the Toronto Blue Jays and the Cubs square off with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Tigers, meanwhile, go up against the second-seeded Seattle Mariners. The Mariners, Brewers, Blue Jays and Phillies all earned first-round byes.
