Roman Korenev, head of the bailiff service responsible for collecting child support payments in Tyumen, Russia, recently revealed one of the most shocking cases of his career in an interview with Russian media outlet 72.RU. The official claimed that a local man completely changed his last name, first name, and patronymic once a year, hoping to evade child support liability.

A year later, the unnamed man would return to his old name and repeat the process. This was his attempt to evade bailiffs and “zero out” the debt. It’s unclear how long he managed to hide from the bailiffs, but his efforts turned out to be futile.

“When a person’s name changes, the registry office reports this information to the bailiffs, so the debtor can’t avoid paying child support this way,” Roman Korenev said.

Tyumen bailiffs told reporters that local residents routinely resort to ridiculous tricks to avoid paying their debts. For example, one man, in an attempt to keep bailiffs out of his home, claimed to suffer from agoraphobia. However, it turned out the debtor owned two apartments, one of which was subject to foreclosure.
