Sean Dyche sacked by Everton

Everton have confirmed they have dismissed manager Sean Dyche just hours before their FA Cup third-round clash with Peterborough.

Dyche, who joined in January 2023, led the team to just three wins from 19 games this season and leaves with Everton only one point clear of the relegation zone.

He recently acknowledged results had fallen short of expectations and admitted his position was right to be under threat.

"To be clear, it should be," he said. "At the end of the day, if you're a business of this size, and this club, succession plan should surely be part of their diligence.

"You've got to win games, we haven't won enough this season, you've got to make sure the team is operating the right way, you've got to try and please everyone, all of the time. That's the job, and we haven't done that often enough, and it comes down to me, without any shadow of a doubt."

Dyche leaves alongside coaching staff Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer.

Everton have begun the search for a new manager but, in the meantime, will leave first-team duties to Under-18 manager Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman, who will take charge of the Toffees in Thursday's FA Cup clash with Peterborough.
