Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal's stance on striker transfer after Gabriel Jesus injury

Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are looking to sign a new striker in the remaining two weeks of the January transfer window.

The Gunners are light on numbers in attack after a number of serious injuries. Arteta previously admitted a new signing could be necessary after Bukayo Saka was sidelined for three months with a hamstring injury, before Ethan Nwaneri picked up an issue and Gabriel Jesus suffered a nasty ACL injury at the weekend.

With Arsenal now operating with only four forwards - Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Raheem Sterling - Arteta confirmed there are plans to recruit a new striker before the end of the month.

"Yes for sure because we lost two big players - Bukayo could be out for three months and Gabby is going to be out for a long time too," Arteta told TNT Sports when asked if a new signing was possible. "We are going to try for sure. We are actively looking.

"We have lost two very important players, we have 14 players in the squad and we play every three days. So, we will try and let's see what we can get."

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is believed to be Arteta's dream target, but the Magpies' price tag of £150m will almost certainly end any slim hopes of a move this month.

RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo have all been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium.
