A veterinary clinic in Turkey recently shared the touching story of a stray dog who carried her unconscious puppy in her mouth and left it at the clinic door as if begging for help.

If not for the viral video footage captured by CCTV cameras, most people would probably think this story too heartwarming to be true. A vet clinic in the Adnan Kahveci neighborhood of Beylikduzu, in Turkey’s Istanbul Province, recently reported one of its most incredible cases. On January 13, an animal lover brought a young puppy they had found on the street, claiming it was the only survivor of a stray’s litter. The clinic rushed to treat the pup only to then have its mother show up on the doorstep with another unconscious puppy in its mouth. A technician noticed the desperate animal and rushed to tend to its offspring, which suffered from hypothermia and had a very low heart rate.

Surveillance footage from inside the clinic shows the worried canine mother following the vet staff into the clinic and keeping an eye on them as they tended to her unconscious baby. Luckily, Dr Baturalp Oghan and his team were able to save the little puppy and now the entire family is recovering at the clinic.

“Everything is going well so far. The treatment for both the puppy and its sibling will continue for a little longer. During this time, we are not accepting visitors due to their health,” Dr. Oghan said. “The mother dog is recovering well. Her story has intrigued so many people, she’s a very intelligent and caring dog. It shows the love that a mother dog has for her puppies.”

Apparently, the mother’s milk was insufficient to sustain the entire litter, which is why some of the puppies unfortunately died, so the clinic is supplementing the two surviving puppies’ diet with formula.

 

After the video of the dedicated canine mom went viral online, the clinic got a lot of phone calls from worried animal lovers and it now hopes to find a forever home for the entire family.
