The championship series of the Women's College World Series is set after No. 2 Oklahoma, the four-time reigning national champion, was upset in dramatic fashion by No. 12 Texas Tech on Monday night. With the win, the Red Raiders will now meet No. 6 Texas, which eliminated No. 7 Tennessee with a 2-0 victory earlier Monday in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma was down to its final strike against two-time All-American pitcher NiJaree Canady, but No. 9 hitter Abigale Dayton launched a tying two-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh to keep the Sooners' season alive. But that wouldn't last long. In the bottom of the seventh, the Red Raiders got a single from Mihyia Davis and a double from Hailey Toney, setting up a game-winning sacrifice fly from Lauren Allred, scoring Davis.
Texas earned a spot in the championship series for the third time in four seasons by knocking off Tennessee, 2-0, behind a combined three-hitter from Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan. Kavan threw a complete game in Saturday's win over Oklahoma and then came back to throw three hitless innings to close out Tennessee on Monday. Katie Stewart hit a solo homer in the fourth to give the Longhorns a lead they would not relinquish.
Like Oklahoma, Tennessee would have needed two wins in order to advance. The Lady Vols defeated No. 9 UCLA, 5-4, in extra innings in a controversial finish on Sunday. The Bruins tied it in the seventh on a two-run shot by Megan Grant, but replay showed she missed home plate before being pulled back by a teammate. After nearly 15 minutes of review, the officiating crew ruled the play non-reviewable under NCAA rules. Tennessee walked it off in the ninth on a bases-loaded single from Laura Mealer.
The double-elimination tournament determined who advanced to the championship series, where the final two teams -- Texas and Texas Tech -- face off in a best-of-three showdown. For the complete schedule and results for every matchup, follow along right here at CBS Sports.
